Found in 2008, the Department of Design and Art has 8 specialties, including architectural decoration engineering, Chinese ancient architecture engineering, environmental art design, furniture design, gem identification and jewelry manufacturing etc.. It is enrolling more than 2000 students now and aiming to cultivate high-skilled and comprehensive application-oriented talents. There is one of the first batch of national modern apprenticeship pilot programs, one national demonstration model practice and training base, one provincial excellent specialty, and one demonstration specialty and training base construction project in the department.

Among the high-quality faculty, 81% have the master's degree, 30% are the associate professor or the high-workers, 30% are he lecturers or engineers, and 65% obtain the national registration qualification certificates of the relevant industry. Meanwhile, famous designers and technical experts from all lines are invited to serve as advisors and guest associate professors, which will enrich and strengthen the faculty.

It has a multi-functional training center, an art exhibition hall and various design studios. Based on the "project-oriented" training platform of modern apprenticeship and cooperating with enterprises, it has built training bases in and out of the campus as "factory in school" or "school in a factory" for students.

The teaching staffs and students receive good results in international and national design competitions every year , such as I-DING International Design Awards, Times Young Creative Rewards, the National College Student Advertising Design Competition etc.. In the past three years, students have participated in various skill competitions and won more than 30 national awards and 60 provincial awards. The employment of graduates is broad in field and high in quality.
